The department of catechesis stands for coordinating all the activities of faith formation of the children in the diocese. This department is headed by the director and assisted by a team of priests, religious and lay people. The eparchy is divided into ten catechetical foranes and each one is guided by priest as the director and assisted by a team of faith formaters (teachers). There is regular religious instruction and faith formation programmes on every Sundays for the boys and girls between the ages six to eighteen. Prescribed textbooks, prepared by the Synodal Commision are followed for the instruction. The students are grouped into twelve classes and they are divided into four sections, namely 1-3 Little Flower, 4-6 Dominic Savio, 7-9 Alphonsa. 10-12 St. Thomas. There are 144 Sunday schools and 28, 109 students at present. A headmaster and a secretary together with the staff under the guidance of the Parish Vicar lead every Sunday School. The classes are held for two hours on each Sunday.
"Catechesis is an education in the faith of children, young people and adults which includes especially the teaching of Christian doctrine imparted, generally speaking, in an organic and systematic way, with a view to initiating the hearers into the fullness of Christian life."

"Catechism aims at presenting an organic synthesis of the essential and fundamental contents of Catholic doctrine, as regards both faith and morals, in the light of the Second Vatican Council and the whole of the Church's Tradition. Its principal sources are the Sacred Scriptures, the Fathers of the Church, the liturgy, and the Church's Magisterium."

Message from Bishop
Catechetical Ministry or faith formation of the people of God is a very significant and basic ministry of the Church. Catechesis can never be limited to the children but instead it is a formation given to the persons from the womb to the tomb. It means faith formation is an ongoing process which is to be imparted to the faithful at various stages of their lives. The mind of the Church regarding catechesis is that it should be conferred on the basis of the particular traditions and circumstances of the Individual Churches. So also, we need to update the formation programmes and impliment new teaching methodologies to cop up with the contemporary social and cultural changes. In the diocese we have taken various creative measures for the effective catechetical formation of the people of God. I am happy to introduce this website of the centre for catechesis of the diocese of Kanjirapally to the public so that all can have access to the information about its various programmes. I appreciate the director and the team for their vision and commitment in this regard.
Praying for God's abundant blessing to all,
Mar Mathew Arackal
Bishop of Kanjirapally
